iOS Gaming

So, I have a few games on my iPod Touch, and to be honest, they are alright. But the thing with iOS games, is that they all really end up being repetitive. And thus, become boring after a while. Some games you actually play through without it feeling repetitive, but apart from that, the games get boring very easily.
My opinion on this, is that some developers need to actually spend a bit of money, and perhaps make a multiplayer game, that you can play a lot without it getting boring. It should also have customisation and unlocks, to keep the player interested, in wanting to unlock the new items or gear, but obviously the unlocks shouldn't give too much of an advantage.
I believe that this would increase the iOS gaming market, and give some incentive to actually buy games that have over 100+ hours of re-playable value.
This would also expand the iOS market to new developers, who would want to be able to get a game out there, that people would enjoy, and that the developers could actually push continual updates out, adding new things, and premium items to support the developer(s) hosting everything.
I think this would have a kind of Call of Duty effect, how there would be the main game that lots of people play, and buy the new one in the series. It lacks a good campaign, but makes up for it with lots of multiplayer time. Personally, CoD isn't my cup of tea, but I do know that people spend a lot of time playing online on it. I believe that if there was a game that could provide the same sort of feel as CoD (And by that, I mean replayable-in-multiplayer value) the iOS market would be a lot more profitable.

I have sent in a few ideas like this to a development studio, who make apps for people if they believe that they would be able to make a profit out of, but sadly they declined. I don't mind though, as I could probably find someone else who would think this a good idea.

Minecraft (again)

Hello!

Yes, it has been a considerable amount of time since my last post, but alas, I have returned! And I have returned with another post about Minecraft. I'm not going to be criticizing it, analysing it, or judging it. Merely, sharing my personal thoughts for improvement about it.

First of all: The multi player needs a lot of work; boats are insanely hard to manoeuvre, from all of my experiences playing I usually end up breaking my boats, because it't too hard to turn them fast enough.
Also, whenever I join a PvP server, I usually end up dying a fair bit, due to lag. Now, I know that this isn't Mojangs fault, but it's still annoying nevertheless, and whenever I play a fast paced game of League of Legends, Halo, or Counter-Strike, I never end up worrying about the lag, because there never seems to be any.
It's just a very annoying thing, and it also applies to the mobs in the game as well, you can swing away and it can take a few seconds before they register.
Minecarts are even more laggy and hopeless than boats, as they go about five blocks before stopping, glitching a bit and then going again. Or sometimes, just stopping altogether (even if it has speed).

I also think that Minecraft should be more player-oriented in it's updates, as we always just see the 'snapshots' of updates, which after they are released, they ask people to report glitches and bugs. I think that they should make polls as to what players would want to see added or changed in the game, to make it it a better overall experience. This would allow Mojang to connect with the fas more, and really get to know what the fans want, because some updates end up being pretty useless.

Now, things that I think would be quite cool to see on Minecraft would be a whole new enchanting system. I mean,  just using levels to get a random upgrade on a tool, sword or bit of armour is all fine and dandy, but what if you could use other things along with the levels to upgrade? Perhaps new ores that can be infused into the enchanted item upon enchanting to give it more variations of properties.
One example could be a Ruby. If you inserted a Ruby or two into the swords hilt when you enchanted it, it could have some sort of internal bleeding effect, which makes the enemy take damage over time, and slows them for x seconds. Or, every time a player hits a critical with it, there is a 20% chance to stun the enemy for 1.5 seconds, and doing an extra heart and a half of damage to them.
This would open up enchanting by a lot, considering there could be any number of new enchanting gems, and a whole lot more stats to play around with and experiment.

Another addition to enchanting could be Cursing. It would be like enchanting, but the table, instead of diamonds has a rare ore found in the Nether. This could use anything, such as health, hunger, levels, or any other sort of payment. When you Curse something, there is a 50/50 chance that it will give it an upgrade or it will have a negative effect, such as destroying it, killing you and taking all your (payment for Cursing), or just having bad stats on the item. This, once again, would open up the enchanting field, and allow for a lot more experimenting to happen, and risks taken.

This is only a few things I have, as me and a friend who play Minecraft together often talk about things that could be added or changed for the better. I don't want to make this post too long and daunting, so I might post more about this later.

End of year exams!

I haven't posted anything in a while (again!) because of personal things, such as homework, family, etc etc. Anyways, now I have about 7 days left in school, before the end of year exams start. I'm not too worried about them though, because I've already passed NCEA Level 2. (Which is the system that they use in New Zealand to determine who passes through to the next level) And you only need 80 credits to pass, and i'm sitting on 89. I'm about to get some more from Drama and some other class that I can't actually remember right now. Anyways, each year i'm promised something nice from parents or grandparents or someone, and so since I've passed I don't need to worry about doing well in them, but I still am going to try my best. We are also getting Derived grades because of the earthquake, so I'm hoping that I won't need them because I will be able to do a lot better.

So here is my question to you; What is the best way to study? How do you study and what do you think helps YOU remember things for exams?

My Favorite Places to Find Music!

Personally, I have 3 websites which I visit everyday, in a frantic scour for new music to add to my playlists. I have playlists, playlists everywhere. But let's not get into that. Anyways, the first website which is the most common, is YouTube. I know people always say "OH THERES NO GOOD MUSIC ON YOUTUBE, IT'S ALL JUST VEVO AND VEVO SUCK!!!!1!!!!!!!" Well firstly, Vevo don't suck. They have their ads on videos so that we can continue to watch YouTube videos for free. They are what keep the internet economy going. And secondly, all you need to do is know who to subscribe to.

My personal favorite uploaders are:

MrSuicideSheep ( http://www.youtube.com/user/MrSuicideSheep ) for his amazing chilled out uploads. People get annoyed at him for uploading songs late, but who cares? At least he's uploading quality songs.

ElectroBootlegMusic ( http://www.youtube.com/user/ElectroBootlegMusic ) Some of the best Electro Mixes I have ever heard! Also, he uploads heaps of 80 minute mixes, which are awesome for long car rides, walks, runs etc.

Watchterberg ( http://www.youtube.com/user/Wachterberg ) For his beautiful Progressive House series; Sunset Melodies. The title describes them perfectly, watching the sunset and listening to them is an amazing exeperience. And I'm a big fan of Prog House, so I have all of these mixes, and they just have a really happy vibe.

And finally; BizzEpicMusic ( http://www.youtube.com/user/BizzEpicMusic ) for his top notch uploads! Dubstep, electro, all the good stuff, y'know? He uploads heaps of songs which are new, and some that are old, but never really got big.

My second favorite place to find music is Newgrounds. Head over to the audio portal, and there are HEAPS of songs, available for FREE downloads (it's legal, don't worry!) from the artists themselves. I also try to donate to some of my favorite artists on there, such as xKore, but buying his EP. I definitely reccomend heading over to Newgrounds and checking out their awesome Audio Portal!

And finally, Soundcloud. Oh yes, it's not as good as the other two in my opinion, but it's still one of the best ways to find new artists and music. Definitely check it out if you haven't already, make an account and start following all your favorite artists!

The Thursday Three

The Thursday Three is a new post I'm introducing, which will showcase the best three songs I have found amongst all of the interwebs. These songs will most likely be Dubstep/Electro/Covers/Game Songs (OST or fan-made work). I'm really looking forward to showcasing the best talents on all of the internets, as I'm sure it will help the artists aswell, especially if they aren't well known!

Enough dillydallying, let's get to it! All the links will be at the bottom of the post!

1: xKore ft. Zoe & Naomi - Need You (Centra 100BPM Fu****g Fast Remix)
This song is as the title describes, really fast! An amazing remix by Centra! I found this in my sub box by an uploader who promotes artists such as this by uploading their songs, so give him some love, along with xKore and Centra!

2: Poseidon - Heavy Repercussions
Poseidon never cease to amaze me! Although their current selection of songs is pretty limited right now, all the amazing tracks they have released are absolutely amazing! I can't wait to see what else they have for us in the future!

3: Gareth Emery feat. Lucy Saunders - Sanctuary (Ephixa Remix) [Garuda]
And thus Ephixa concludes this weeks Thursday Three! Ephixa is pretty well known on YouTube for his Zelda Dubstep Remixes and love of bacon. But then again, don't we all love bacon? Anyways, check him out if you haven't already! Hope you guys enjoyed these songs, and we'll be seeing each other again next week for the Thursday Three!

Minecraft 1.8!

Okay, I couldn't help myself. I had to make a post about the new Minecraft update!
1.8 Features HEAPS of new stuff! As soon as I realized it came out, I quickly jumped onto Minecraft, and made a new world.
Upon entering the new world, I noticed that the biomes were A LOT bigger, and that you started in a new one, rather than starting off on sand. The trees had vines coming down off them, and the grass was a kind of, sickly green. There were plenty of mushrooms on the surface, unless like past patches, when they were extremely rare, and only found underground. I decided that I should start finding a place to build. I made a temporary house for the night and, as day rolled around a continued on my travels.
After travelling for about 3 days (ingame of course) I finally found a good place to build. I built a small house for starters, due to lack of resources, and then finally made a mine. As I mined, it seemed as though nothing had changed with the underground, until I stumbled upon a cave system. I was excited, thinking of all the ores and enemies that it held for me. Stone sword and pick in hand I ventured in, lighting the way behind me. And then out of nowhere, I see a wood block. "WTF?" was going through my mind at this point, and then I realised I had found an abandoned mine! I explored it for a bit, and finding a few chests containing iron, bread and Melon Seeds, I headed back.
I decided that I should make a farm, and then when I was outside, I realised it was night time. I quickly hoed the land down, ran down to the sea and filled a bucket with water, and filled up my 1x5 hole with water. I planted the seeds, and just as I was about to go back into my house my crosshair stopped on something black, with purple eyes. The new mob 'Enderman'. "Oh god" I thought. I swapped to my sword and charged at him, he teleported away after the first hit. About 10 seconds later when I was in my house, he came back behind me, and dropped me down to 1 heart before I killed him.

This was my experience with the new 1.8 update, I'm really having a blast with it right now, I'm especially loving the new combat system, as fighting mobs has been one of my favorite parts of Minecraft. If you haven't already, update your Minecraft now, and get in on the action!
